Spring 2016 Returning Students Pre-registration Information for Faculty

For Advisers:

  • Required Clearance: Students must receive electronic adviser clearance in order to complete pre-registration. Students are instructed to make appointments with their adviser.

For All Faculty, Key Details:

Where: Pre-registration will take place in the Portal under the Registration tab. Students will receive an email with instructions and when their appointment times are available.

When:    As shown below, student online appointments begin Nov. 5, at 4:30 pm and end by 8pm or 9pm. Students can access pre-registration starting at their appointment times through 8am the following day (exception noted below).  Pre-registration then reopens to all students on Wednesday, November 11, at 8am and will remain open until the last day of final exams, December 18.

  • Accessing Course Info: To view your course enrollment info, access "Search for Classes/Enrollment Information" in the faculty portal at my.whitman.edu. View the catalog at: catalog.whitman.edu.

  • Academic Overloads: Students are not allowed to enroll in academic overloads during pre-registration. Students may add up to 18 academic credits and any additional activity credits they wish.

    •   Academic Overload is permitted during registration (a.k.a. Add/Drop) with the approval of an "Academic Overload" form at the beginning of the new semester.

  • Pre-registration Support: The Registrar's Office will be staffed during all student pre-registration appointments and may be reached using the "Live Chat" link on the registration page, calling x5983, emailing registrar@whitman.edu, or visiting Memorial 212.

Course Consent and Waitlists:

  • Course Consent: Students trying to register in a consent or closed course will need electronic instructor consent.  View the "Portal Instruction Sheet" for step-by-step instructions. 

    • Remember: After an instructor grants course consent, students receive an automated email on how to accept the consent. After the student accepts the consent, an automated request will be sent to the Registrar's Office and the student will be registered. Instructor consent does NOT automatically register the student in the course.

  • Waitlists: Students will have the ability to add themselves to electronic class waitlists (if the instructor indicated one would be used for the class). Instructors can view their waitlists and grant electronic consent from the waitlist. The 'Manage Waitlist' link is located on my.whitman.edu for each of your classes (see the "Portal Instruction Sheet" for details).
