What does this mean for me?
For you, this means:
-
Advisors (new students): Your advisees must meet with you in person to plan their Fall 2026 schedule before Arena Registration. You’ll be on hand during Arena Registration for any last-minute questions.
-
Advisors (returning students): Advisees who want to add or drop a class will need to contact you for Advisor Clearance before or during Add/Drop.
-
Instructors: Students may be contacting you to arrange Faculty Consent, Registration Exceptions, and/or Requisite Waivers.
-
All faculty: Some students may ask you to sign their Academic Overload or Course Conflict Resolution Form.

Hints
See the attachment for detailed instructions, with screenshots, for each of these types of electronic permissions. I've also included a handy flowchart you can use as you're working with students/advisees to register for their classes (next week is Add/Drop Week One). And finally, some helpful reminders/faqs:
-
Waitlists are not active during new student registration or Add/Drop.
-
If a seat is open, any student who meets the registration requirements can claim it on a first-come, first-served basis.
-
To see who was on your waitlist when it closed at the end of last semester, find your section in my.whitman.edu > "People and Course Search", then select "View Closed Waitlist".
-
-
If a student has any "Blocking Holds", they can't add or drop any classes. Students can view their current holds under the "Planning & Registration" tab in my.whitman.edu.
-
Academic Overload & Course Conflict Resolution:
-
Students are free to register for up to 18 academic credits. To register for 19 or more academic credits, they must meet certain qualifications and submit a completed Academic Overload form to the Registrar's Office.
-
If a student wants to take two classes with conflicting schedules, they must submit a completed Course Conflict Resolution form to the Registrar's Office.
-
-
During the first week of classes (through 11:59 PM on Sunday, September 6), students don't need the instructor's permission to add themselves to a class. Students are still allowed to add classes during the second week of classes (Monday, September 8 through 11:59 PM on Friday, September 11), but they need to get an Add Authorization from the instructor first.
-
If you need to change your assigned classroom or add a new section (e.g., Independent Study or Thesis), please have your department chair submit a request in Coursedog.
