Registration Info
Fall Registration Info for Current Students
Please take a moment to read through this important information about your myWhitman To-Do List (formerly Student Check-In), Add/Drop, and other start-of-semester business.
New to-do items added this week
These start-of-semester to-do items ensure that Whitman College starts the year with accurate information about your student account, contact preferences, etc. All students who will be on campus for the fall semester must complete their myWhitman to-do items by no later than 11:59 PM on Friday, September 11. If you don’t, you may be locked out of your accounts (e.g., Canvas, myWhitman, email), prevented from adding or dropping classes, and/or be withdrawn from the college as a “no-show”.
Find your to-do list & add/drop start time
-
Log into your account at my.whitman.edu.
-
Under “Student Tools”, select “Planning and Registration”. You should see a list of to-do items associated with your student account. Select “View To-do Items” and follow the instructions for each item to remove it from your list.
-
Make sure all to-do items – with the possible exception of Advisor Clearance – are completed by 11:59 PM on Friday, September 11 to avoid complications with your student account/enrollment status!
Add/Drop begins Monday, August 31
If you’re a returning student, you should already be pre-registered for your Fall 2026 classes (new students will register on Friday during New Student Orientation). After completing your to-do items, select “Course Planning and Registration” to check your Fall 2026 schedule in the Self-Service student planning app. You should see some number of enrolled credits and your course sections marked "Registered, but not started":
If you’re happy with your schedule as it is, then you’re all set for classes to start on Tuesday, September 1st. If you’d like to add or drop course section(s), follow these instructions.
How to add/drop
Contact your academic advisor to discuss the changes you’d like to make. If your advisor approves of the proposed changes, ask them to grant you Advisor Clearance. You will not be able to add or drop courses until your advisor has granted clearance.
Wait for your Add/Drop Appointment time on Monday, August 31. Appointment times are assigned by expected graduation date;
-
2026 (December) and 2027 graduates: Aug 31 @ 8 AM (Pacific/Walla Walla time)
-
2028 graduates: Aug 31 @ 10 AM
-
2029 graduates: Aug 31 @ 12 PM
-
2030 graduates: Aug 31 @ 2 PM
To Add a class:
-
Use the course search in the Self-Service app to find the course section you’d like to add. Make sure the section you want to add is still listed as “Open”; you can’t register yourself for a closed section.
-
Select “Add to Wishlist” to add the desired section to your Course Plan. Make sure you’ve satisfied all of the requirements (e.g., pre-/corequisites, instructor consent, etc.).
-
After your appointed add/drop start time, use the “+” button to add the section to your schedule, then select “Apply Changes” to finish enrolling in the section.
-
Important! Starting on Monday, September 7, you need to obtain an Add Authorization from the instructor before you can join their class (detailed instructions will be sent in a later email).
-
Friday, September 11 is the last day to add a class for Fall 2026.
To Drop a class:
-
You don’t have to get permission from the instructor to drop or withdraw from their class, but you do need to get Advisor Clearance.
-
Make sure you’ve carefully thought through the consequences! Be sure to verify that: (a) there’s a suitable replacement course with open seats; or (b) reducing your credit load won’t negatively impact your financial aid, immigration status, athletic eligibility, time to graduation, etc. Once you drop a course, you might not be able to re-enroll if you change your mind!
-
In your Fall 2026 Course Plan, after your appointed add/drop start time, use the “–” button to remove the section from your schedule, then select “Apply Changes” to finish dropping the section.
-
With your advisor’s clearance, you can drop a class all the way up until Wednesday, October 14 without it showing up on your college transcript.
-
After October 14, dropped classes will appear on your transcript with a W (Withdrawal) in place of a grade. The last day to withdraw from a course is Friday, November 6.
Academic Overload applications are being accepted now
You’re considered a full time student if you’re taking at least 12 credits in a given semester, while anything under 12 credits is considered part-time. Taking more than 18 academic credits per semester is considered academic overload. You must meet certain requirements and obtain approval before you are permitted to overload.
Requirements for enrolling in Academic Overload
-
Students may not enroll in more than 18 academic credits during their first semester at Whitman.
-
You must have both a cumulative GPA and most recently completed semester’s GPA of at least 3.50 for classes taken at Whitman.
-
Fill out the Academic Overload form (available on paper in the Registrar’s Office or online). In order to be considered, your form must be signed by your academic advisor and all of your instructors from your most recently completed semester at Whitman.
-
Submit your completed Academic Overload Form to the Registrar’s Office for processing. Applications may be turned in on paper at the Registrar’s Office or electronically at registrar@whitman.edu.
-
If you don’t meet all of the criteria, or if you are asking to take more than 21 academic credits, your application will be presented to the Board of Review for consideration. The Board of Review approves such applications only in truly exceptional circumstances.
Need Assistance?
If you have questions or need immediate assistance during the add/drop period, Registrar’s Office staff members will be available via Live Chat from Monday, August 31 through Friday, September 6, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM.
