Following are the main steps you will go through to select and register for your fall semester classes.
Steps in Registration:
- Account Activation
- Advising Questionnaire
- Take Placement Tests
- Obtain Advising and Registration Packet
- Individual Appointment With Pre-major Adviser
As a new Whitman student, you will have a Whitman College email and Network account created for you - However, you must "activate" your account before you can use it. The procedure is simple, but you will need your 7-digit Whitman ID number (WID) which is included in the New Student Orientation packet. You need to connect to our Activate Account web page and follow the instructions there.
Before you can fill out your Advising Questionnaire you must "activate" your Whitman College e-mail account (see above). As soon as possible after activating your account and completing any applicable placement tests, fill out the Advising Questionnaire which can be accessed on this webpage, and submit it electronically to us. You must fill out this form prior to June 15. Filling out this questionnaire will help us assign an adviser that is best suited to your interests.
Whitman College offers on-line placement tests in calculus, chemistry and foreign languages. The tests for calculus and chemistry are for your information only and could help in determining the appropriate level for you. If you intend to register for a class in any of the foreign languages, you need to take the on-line placement test prior to August 15. If you have missed the deadline, do not worry as there is still time for you to complete the test. Please do so at your earliest convenience.
After reading through this registration webpage and the online Whitman College Catalog, use the search for classes utility via the web portal and the Planning Grid to select the courses for which you would like to register. New students will be able to register for up to 14 academic credits (including the General Studies course which is required), with the possibility of adding additional credits during the add/drop period. Be sure to keep in mind the distribution requirements as listed in the "General Studies Program" section of the catalog as you select courses. If you need further information or advice, please contact the Academic Resource Center via email at firstname.lastname@example.org, or 509-527-5213.
You have been sent a Registration Preparation Booklet in the New Student Orientation packet that contains information on the registration preparation process. Registration will take place on Saturday, August 29 in the Reid Campus Center. You will be allowed to register for up to 14 total academic credits, including General Studies 145, during registration on Saturday with the option of adding another course after all first-year registration appointments times are completed. If you choose to add this additional course, you will work with your adviser during registration and submit an Additional Course Request form at that time. The day before classes begin, registration will open back up to allow you the opportunity to make any necessary changles to your schedule.
When you arrive on campus, you will receive your Advising and Registration Packet (see below) which will contain detailed information on the Registration process.
Transfer students will be contacted via email to set up an appointment to complete registration by phone in early August. Additional details regarding registration will be provided before arriving on campus.
Upon arriving at Whitman on Thursday, August 27, you will receive an Advising and Registration Packet in your campus mailbox. The packet will contain the name of your adviser, your individual appointment time, and detailed information about the advising and registration processes.
On Friday, August 28, you will meet with your pre-major adviser to discuss the details of your first semester classes. Your adviser will help you plan a schedule that suits your interests, abilities, and long-term goals.
The staff in the Registrar’s Office is available during the summer months to provide assistance in getting answers to your questions (phone 509-527-5983 or email email@example.com).
