Through CIEE, students with beginner to advanced experience in Spanish can study abroad on one of three program tracks based in Alicante, Spain, which lies on the Mediterranean Coast.  The Language in Context track is designed for students with no to little experience with the Spanish language.  Students will take intensive language courses in Spanish and supplement their course plan with area studies courses taught in English.  The Language and Culture track offers intensive language study for intermediate language students with area studies courses taught in Spanish at the CIEE Study Center.  The more advanced students will enroll in the Liberal Arts track with a course plan consisting of intensive language courses and area studies courses taken in Spanish at the CIEE Study Center or the Universidad de Alicante.  Participants on all tracks will have opportunities to immerse themselves in the culture through a number of activities including a conversation exchange program, the Universidad de Alicante’s International Club, and various excursions around Spain.

"CIEE Alicante was very well organized and I really liked all the administrative staff. They were so nice and I even ran a race with one of them. The program offered a number of programs and trips that were a lot of fun and a great learning experience. I really enjoyed the language immersion of this program; few people (besides restaurant staff) speak English in Alicante and I was therefore forced to speak Spanish anytime I spoke outside of the CIEE American student group. I liked the small size of this program; I knew everyone in my programs name, although there were enough people to not know everyone well. Public transportation is easy in Alicante and the international airport is very handy.” - Leah S. ‘19 (Language and Culture)

“The program felt like a family by the end and it was very sad to say goodbye. I wouldn't trade my experience for anything. I felt that Alicante had a perfect mix of culture, hominess, and fun. The program was structured yet gave us freedom to explore. There were many opportunities to experience the culture and improve our Spanish. I learned about Spain as well as about myself and challenging my language abilities definitely played a large part.” - Elena A. ‘18 (Liberal Arts)
