Summer (Non-Whitman) Study Abroad
Overview about Summer (Non-Whitman) Study Abroad Programs
- Students who wish to study abroad in the summer for credit (on a program other than Whitman Crossroads faculty-led courses) should submit a Whitman Summer Study Abroad Transfer Credit Application through myOCS for review of summer OCS credit transfer.
- Whitman does not have a set list of programs pre-approved for summer study abroad transfer credit. (See tips below regarding guidelines for transfer credit.)
- When looking for a summer program, you may want to begin by considering summer programs offered by our partner program providers such as DIS, CIEE, IES, IFSA, SEA, SIT, or SFS.
- Search www.iiepassport.org for potential summer OCS programs
- Whitman does not have a summer term; therefore, there is no Whitman financial aid available for students who wish to enroll in a non-Crossroads summer course.
Tips About Which Summer Study Abroad Credits Transfer
- The OCS Committee reviews summer study abroad course descriptions/syllabi to determine if the courses are suitable for credit transfer.
- Credits must be documented on an official transcript from an accredited foreign university or a university that is recognized by the ministry of education in the host country.
- The program’s official transcript that they send after you complete the program must include the course title, number of credits, and letter grade.
- Pass/fail courses are not acceptable for OCS transfer credit.

Summer (Non-Whitman) Application Process
- Complete an application for transfer credit to Whitman through the myOCS portal.

- Do not pay any enrollment deposit or summer program fees until you have been notified by Whitman OCS about whether their request for transfer credit has been approved.
- Be sure to apply directly for admission to the summer program that you wish to attend. Approval for transfer credit from Whitman does not constitute admission to a particular program.
