Thanks for sharing!
Thank you to all who participated in the online readership survey! The Whitman Magazine issue featuring Pete Reid ’49 (March 2009) was a reader favorite in the random survey conducted in August 2009. We polled 3,500 readers — alumni, parents, staff, faculty and friends of the college — and 22 percent responded.
Here’s a sample of what we learned
BY THE NUMBERS:
56 percent receive “all” or “most” of their information about Whitman from the magazine.
94 percent say the magazine strengthens their connection to Whitman. “I have a sense of belonging to something special,” one reader wrote. “The magazine brings to life the value of the Whitman experience, and the contributions of its faculty and staff to the students, and the students’ contributions to the world,” said another.
66 percent refer to read the magazine in print. Another 14 percent prefer to read it online; 19 percent like both options. For those who asked about recyclable content, here’s the scoop: The magazine is printed on 30 percent post-consumer waste Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified paper at a print shop that also is FSC-certified. One reader explained the preference for print this way: “What I most like about Whitman Magazine is that I can hold it in my hands; I can share it with my grandchildren sitting beside me; I can put it in my bag while traveling; I can give it to prospective students ... so they can hold it in their hands.”
