431 new students from 38 states and 22 countries
187 rank in the top 10 percent of their high school class (7 out of 10 of those schools with class rankings)
44 are first-generation college students and 39 have a sibling, parent or grandparent who attended Whitman
174 were ASB class president, editor or co-editor of a student publication, captain of a varsity athletic team or founder of an organization
Class members bring a broad spectrum of experiences. Among them are students who:
- Interviewed Holocaust survivors in Poland as part of a documentary
- Wrote an opinion piece on diversity published by The New York Times
- Completed an independent research project in Ecuador on fair-trade standards in that country’s chocolate industry
- Starred in an episode of “CSI Miami”
- Organized a soccer equipment drive for Brazilian orphanages
- Worked on a Swiss Alps dairy farm
- Conducted an independent study in emissions trading, recognized by the National Wildlife Federation
