Agender model and activist visits campus
Agender model and activist Rain Dove visited Whitman on Feb. 9, where she addressed students in Maxey Auditorium. Her talk was titled "Rain Dove: Redefining Gender" and explored her experiences as a former firefighter now navigating the fashion world. Known for breaking down gender binaries, Rain Dove is an androgynous model who has appeared in publications such as Vogue, Cosmo, Elle and Marie Claire in both menswear and womenswear. She advocates for body positivity and gender fluidity.
"By hearing Rain talk about her career, I hope the audience will begin or even continue to think about gender as a construction and the ways in which physical appearance does not and should not have to fit into the confines of societal binaries," said film and media studies major Hannah Poukish '17, who organized the event for the Associated Students of Whitman College (ASWC).
