Elizabeth Vandiver publishes two essays on British poetry of the First World War
Elizabeth Vandiver, Clement Biddle Penrose Associate Professor of Latin and Classics, has recently published two essays on British poetry of the First World War.
The Cambridge Companion to the Poetry of the First World War, published in November by Cambridge University Press, includes her chapter, "Early Poets of the First World War." The chapter focuses on four classically-educated poets: Rupert Brooke, Julian Grenfell, Charles Hamilton Sorley and Patrick Shaw Stewart.
In June, her essay "To Hades—and Back? Chthonic Goddesses, Death, and Rebirth in the War Poetry of Robert Graves and Richard Aldington" also appeared in Robert Graves and the Mediterranean: Proceedings of the Tenth International Robert Graves Conference, published by the University of the Balearic Islands Press.
