Greg Mitchell, Assistant Professor of Theatre Design, will premiere his latest work, comprising nearly 130 costume designs for the National Theatre of Albania production of Richard Wagner’s opera Tannhäuser.
A team of international artists collaborated on the production to transpose Wagner’s work to the twentieth century and to take some modern liberties with the opera’s original intentions. This production of Tannhäuser will mark the first occasion Wagner has ever been performed in Albania.
The production has been funded and supported by numerous international agencies, including the Wagner Society, the International Music and Arts Foundation (IMAF), the American and German Embassies to Albania and the Ministry of Culture of Albania. The premiere performance will occur on Saturday, Nov. 23 and will be produced by the Teatri Komebtar e Baletit dhe Opera at the National Opera House in Tirana.
