Martinez artwork included in national competition
Richard Martinez, assistant professor of art, will have his work included in Texas National 2013, a competitive national exhibition in the Cole Art Center at The School of Art at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. The exhibit will run April through June 2013. Renowned art historian Dr. Peter Selz juried the exhibit. Selz is a past curator at the Museum of Modern Art and founding director of the University Art Museum at Berkley. He has curated shows on Alberto Giacometti, Morris Graves and Mark Rothko and has written for many art publications. The recipient of numerous awards, he is the author of “The Art of Engagement.”
ALSO–the Portland Art Museum is exhibiting Martinez’ work “Hard Candy,” oil on canvas, as part of the Northwest Art Collection. Bonnie Laing-Malcomson, The Arlene & Harold Schnitzer Curator of Northwest Art, Portland Art Museum, visited Martinez’ studio in Walla Walla and selected the work to be on exhibit through November 2013.
