Helen Kim, professor of sociology, and Noah Leavitt, assistant dean for student engagement, were recently cited in the leading newspaper for Jewish world news, Haaretz and in the Jewish Daily Forward.

Both articles focus on Angela Buchdahl, the first Asian-American rabbi, and on the question of finding a Jewish identity in multiracial families. Kim and Leavitt conducted a two-year sociological study on Asian-Jewish identity by interviewing dozens of Asian-Jewish families across the country. They found that most Asian-Jewish couples today are raising their children as Jews, just as Buchdahl's parents did.
