WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- George Fox, led by 6-foot-3 middle blocker Eliza Pledger, visits Sherwood Center Friday night to battle Whitman College in a 7 p.m. Northwest Conference volleyball match.

The Bruins are 0-2 in the NWC and 5-7 on the season. Whitman, the youngest team in the conference, is 0-3 and 3-7 overall.

Pledger, a junior, leads George Fox in hitting percentage (.295), kills (2.62 per game) and blocks (1.09 per game). Among NWC statistical leaders, she ranks second in hitting percentage and third in blocks.

Other key players for the Bruins are junior Patti Reeves, who returns a conference-high 6.77 digs per game, and senior setter Ali Toedtemeier, who is third in the NWC in assists at 8.68 per game.

Jillian Davis, a first-year outside hitter, leads the Missionary offense with 3.23 kills per game, which ranks her fifth in the conference.

Sophomores Carrie Cecil and Courtney Brewer are both averaging 2.40 kills per game. Brewer is hitting .247 on the season, which ranks her eighth in the NWC.

First-year setter Rachel Cline is No. 4 in service aces (.44 per game) and No. 5 in assists (8.44 per game).

Sophomore Olivia Nielson ranks second in the NWC in blocks, averaging 1.12 per game. Brewer is ninth in blocks (.91 per game) while Davis is seventh in digs at 3.58 per game.

With a balanced attack, George Fox is No. 2 in the conference in both kills and assists. The Bruins top the NWC in digs at 20.05 per game.

Whitman is No. 2 as a team in blocks, averaging 2.37 per game.

George Fox won both meetings between the two schools last fall. The two sides split the season series in 2008 with Whitman winning a five-setter at home.

The Missionaries took two five-game victories from the Bruins in 2007.
