Alumni Swim Meet Set for Saturday Morn

WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- About 20 Whitman College swimmers from years past will take part when the Missionary swim program hosts its annual Alumni Swim Meet at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Louise and Paul Harvey Pool in Baker Ferguson Fitness Center.

Swim fans are encouraged to swing by the pool to watch the alumni match strokes with the current varsity squad.

The alumni meet is a final tune-up for the varsity, which kicks off its season on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 29-30, at the annual Northwest Conference Sprint Pentathlon and Relay Invitational. Those meets are hosted this year by Willamette University and Linfield College.

Alumni swimmers expected to take part on Saturday include Jed Schwendiman '92, Kathy Farrell Guizer '95, Dana Kelleher '96, Jamie Kennedy '96, and Tucker Jackson '91.

More recent graduates on the alumni roster include Alexis Krupp '07, Matt Colley '07, Lisa Doane '07, Robert Street '07, Nancy Alexander '08, Erin Pettersen '08, Elizabeth Roberson '08,

Ysbrand Nusse '09, Noel Sollom-Brotherton '09, Kendi Thomas '10, Jessie Neill '10, Kevin McCoy '10, Sidney Kohls '10, Nick Hurlburt '10, and Colin Gibson '10.

The number of alumni swimming on Saturday is believed to be a record turnout for the annual meet.

Both the men's and women's teams are coming off strong seasons a year ago and are expected to be just as strong, if not stronger, this season.
