Whitman College and the Walla Walla Police Department will conduct a simulated emergency exercise on the campus, June 22 beginning at in the early to mid-afternoon.

The simulation will involve an act of violence as opposed to a natural or physical disaster. Further details of the incident will unfold in real time and will not be released in advance.

There will be a significant police presence on campus, and parts of the campus will be cordoned off and will not be accessible during the exercise. Therefore, college officials are advising Whitman campus community members and area residents about the event in advance to the fullest extent possible, through the college Web site and the local media.

Together with police officials, Whitman’s safety officer is orchestrating the exercise as part of the college’s ongoing emergency response planning and preparation activities. Following the simulation, the emergency response team will evaluate the response.
