WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- The Whitman College baseball program is hosting a Holiday Baseball Camp Nov. 22-24 for players between the ages of 6 and 18.
The camp is for athletes who want to develop their baseball skills during the winter months in the top-notch facilities now available in the recently renovated Sherwood Athletic Center. Current and former Whitman coaches and players will instruct campers on the fundamentals of baseball during the three-day camp.
The camp features two age groups. Younger players (ages 6 to 12) will meet from 9 a.m. to noon each day. Older players (ages 13-18) are slated for 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The Holiday Camp provides a unique opportunity for younger players to develop their skills and warm up a bit during the cold winter months.
For the older group, the camp is an opportunity to receive advanced instruction from college coaches and players, and to showcase and their skills going into their high school spring seasons.
Activities each day of the camp include stretching and running progression, throwing progression, offensive stations, and position-specific defensive positions.
Jared Holowaty, the first-year head coach at Whitman, heads the camp staff. Holowaty earned all-conference and all-regions as an outfielder at Eastern Connecticut State College, where he captained the 2002 NCAA Div. III national championship team. His previous experience includes a stint as an assistant coach at NCAA Div. I University of Maine.
Mark Michard, Jr., an assistant coach at Whitman, is the camp director. He was an assistant coach at Eastern Connecticut when it won Division III national titles in 1998 and 2002. He also served previously as an assistant with the Division I programs at Sienna College and Maine.
Sean Kinney, a Whitman assistant coach, is also part of the coaching staff. Kinney was a two-time First-Team All-Conference at Whitman. During the summer months, he coaches the Bend Elks in the West Coast Baseball League.
The cost for the three-day camp is $100.
