WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- The Whitman College swim teams will host their only dual meet of the semester this Saturday at the Baker Ferguson Fitness Center's Paul Harvey Pool.
The meet gets underway at 1 p.m. and pits the Missionaries against the Lutes of Pacific Lutheran University.
The two Whitman teams got their dual meet seasons off to a good start last weekend in western Oregon. Despite missing senior captain Ysbrand Nusse, the men's team outpointed both Linfield College and Pacific University. The women's squad edged Linfield, swamped California's Mills College, and dropped a narrow decision to Pacific.
Senior Noel Sollom-Brotherton and junior Chelsea Klinger were two Missionaries who excelled in last weekend's meets. Sollom-Brotherton won four individual events and contributed to a relay victory. Klinger won three individual races and also was part of a winning relay team.
First-year freestyler Linnea Scott won a pair of distance races against Linfield and added a third triumph against Pacific and Mills. Sophomore Laura Flynn also snagged three individual victories, in addition to swimming a leg on a triumphant relay team.
Sophomore Jamie Nusse
had a good weekend for the men, winning three individual races while
contributing to a relay victory against Linfield. Freshman Chris Bendix, also part of the Linfield relay win, won two individual races against Pacific.
After this weekend, Whitman wraps up its 2008 calendar year schedule with the Northwest Invitational Nov. 21-22 in Spokane, Wash. The Missionaries then resume their Northwest Conference dual meet season when they host Lewis & Clark College and Willamette University on Jan. 16-17.- 30 -
