WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Fans of Whitman College basketball may see a little history made Tuesday night when the Missionary women host cross-community rival Walla Walla University.

The game starts at 7:30 p.m. in Sherwood Center with the Missionaries putting their perfect 6-0 record on line. A seventh victory means the Whitman women team will be off to a 7-0 start for the first time in school history.

By drubbing nationally ranked Washington University (St. Louis, Mo.) last Saturday in Spokane, Whitman tied the school record for most victories to start a women's basketball season. The Whitman women also won their first six games to start the 1991-92 season.

Through its first six games this season, Whitman is averaging 75.7 points, which is tops in the Northwest Conference. The Missionaries also lead the NWC in both field goal (47.1 percent) and free throw (76.9 percent) accuracy.

Junior Michelle Krall is No. 2 in the NWC in scoring at 15.5 points per game. Junior Hilary White (13.7 ppg) and sophomore Jenele Peterson (13.5 ppg) are sixth and seventh in scoring.

Sophomore Rebecca Sexton is averaging 12.3 points per game while shooting an NWC-best 64.0 percent from the floor. Junior teammate Ellen Vertatschitsch is actually shooting at a higher clip, having made 12 of 18 shots from the floor (66.7 percent), but she hasn't made enough baskets per game to qualify for the conference statistical leaders.

White leads the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.80). Peterson is third in assists (3.67 apg) while Krall is No. 3 in free throw shooting, having made 34 of 37 attempts (91.9 percent). Krall was 13 for 13 at the line in a late November victory over Corban.

Whitman's rebounding has been just as balanced as its scoring. Sophomore reserve Anna Forge leads the squad in rebounding, averaging 6.2 board per game in addition to 6.3 points per outing. Other Missionary rebounding leaders are Krall (5.7 rpg), White (5.5 rpg) and Sexton (5.5 rpg).

Whitman wraps up its non-conference schedule later this week with a pair of games. The Missionaries play Eastern Oregon at 5:30 p.m. Friday in La Grande and then host College of Idaho at 6 p.m. Saturday.
