WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Chris Faidley, who combined a career-high 42 points with seven rebounds and six assists in a Whitman College victory last Saturday, has been named Northwest Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for a second consecutive week.

Faidley, a 6-foot-2 junior guard from Shoreline, Wash., played all 40 minutes of Whitman's 81-67 victory over NAIA Div. I University of Great Falls. He had 25 points by halftime and then handed out five of his game-high six assists in the second half.

Faidley's latest scoring outburst boosted his early season scoring average to 31.5 points per game, which is tops among all Northwest Conference players. Pacific Lutheran's Scott McDaniels is No. 2 with a 20.7 scoring average.

A Whitman team captain, Faidley is also averaging 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists over his first four games. He is shooting 52.6 percent from the floor and an even 50 percent from the 3-point line. He leads the NWC in 3-point shooting, averaging 4.5 treys per game, and in total free throws made (28 of 34, 82.4 percent).

Faidley earned his first Player of the Week award in late November after he had 51 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists in a pair of games. He made 10 of 18 3-point shots in those two contests.

A year ago as a sophomore, Faidley made 91 3-point baskets in 25 games. That number led the NWC and set a new single-season school record at Whitman. He finished his sophomore season with a 16.9-point scoring average, which ranked him third in the NWC scoring race.

Faidley, who played his prep ball at King's High School in Seattle, earned one NWC Player of the Week award during his sophomore season. That recognition came after he made 16 of 25 3-point shots and scoring 52 points in a pair of road games.

Whitman, which opened the season with close road losses to Evergreen State and Cal Lutheran, has now won its last two games. The Missionaries host Evergreen State College at 4 p.m. this Saturday in Sherwood Center. Whitman also hosts its annual Wildhorse Resort Classic Dec. 14-16.
