Whitman freshman Brian Barton dropped his score by a stroke in Monday's second round and finished in a tie for 12th place at the Northwest Conference Men's Fall Golf Classic at the Spokane Country Club.

Barton shot a 5-over par 77 Monday to finish with a 36-hole score of 155. That was one stroke behind three golfers who tied for ninth place.

Missionary senior Dean Peterson cut his second-day score by eight strokes, shooting 86 on Monday for a two-round total of 180. Two sophomores, Paul De Barros and Chris Huong, both finished at 181. Huong carded a 90 on Monday, one stroke better than De Barros. Freshman Noah Jolley's 91 in the closing round left him with a 185 total.

In the team scoring, Whitman finished eighth with a 697 total for its top four golfers in each round. Linfield took first with a 604. Whitworth (608) was second and Pacific third (611). Next in line were Pacific Lutheran (619), Puget Sound (630), Willamette (661) and Lewis & Clark (684). George Fox finished last with a 715.

Pacific Lutheran's Chris Packard took individual medalist honors with a 143. Whitworth's Jordan Carter and Linfield's Tyler Nelson tied for second at 148. Pacific's Max Bonk with a 149 was the only other player to shoot below 151.
