Welcome to the Whitman College Magazine Online. This issue explores the study and practice of rhetoric and public address at Whitman College. Whitman offers a strong academic slate that delves into rhetorical history, theory, and criticism, arguments in law and politics, communication in the media, gender and race-based rhetoric, public speaking, and more. In addition, the College fields the nation's best all-around debate team and, this year, the first-place winners of the Cross Examination Debate Association national championships.

"We encourage those who want to be leaders to become as good as they can be in the ancient and much celebrated art of public speaking."
