We will kick off our Know Before You Go series with my colleagues from Housing and Residence Life. I will be joined by Interim Director of Residence Life and Housing, Andrew Johnson, who will speak a bit about our comprehensive residential living and learning program and will then be available to answer all your questions about housing, roommates, room assignments, res life programming and much much more.
In this Know Before You Go session, guests shared information about Whitman's First Year Seminar program, writing in your first year and specifically everything you need to know about the required Writing Assessment. Date of recording: June 22, 2023.
The guests in this session represented the offices that will be responsible for helping our newest students get registered for their fall classes. That starts with advising and Summer Registration Assistants (SRAs). These staffers are on the front line of that work. They will get you connected to your individual (SRA) and help familiarize you with the tools to get that done. If you have questions about AP or IB credit, transfer credit, or the timing of advising and registration this summer, make sure you check out this KBYG! Date of recording: June 15, 2023
Today's session was joined by Kim Rolfe, co-Director of the Career and Community Engagements. There was so much to talk about here: Internships, campus jobs, career coaching, job fairs, community engagement, community service, community partnerships and so much more. Students who connect early with the staff and programming in the Career and Community Engagement Center will help really launch themselves into this important aspect of the Whitman co-curricular. Date of Recording: June 29, 2023
The guests from this session are some of my favorite people: NiQo Bullock, Stace Sievert, and Bake Weilert Pekar. These three provide support to students through club advising, Sorority and Fraternity life, Debate & Forensics, the Pathways Leadership program, the College's student media groups, and the College's student programming board. If student involvement is your game, you will definitely want to get to know these three and the many programs they help support. Date of recording: 07/06/2023
Interested in learning more about the academic division of Computer Science, Math and the Natural Sciences and the great course offerings and majors they support? In this session, Dean Dunn hosts Division Chair and Professor of Mathematics Albert Schueller and his colleagues. This was a great time to ask about courses that might be offered in the fall, calculus and/or Chemistry placement tests, research opportunities, majors, etc. Think of this as some advising for this area of the college. Date of Recording: 07/13/2023
Did you know that Whitman partners with more than 80 programs worldwide for students who are interested in studying away or abroad from campus for 1-2 semesters? From Morocco to Munich, Buenos Aires to Belgium, St. Andrews to Senegal, there are so many opportunities for you to experience the world beyond what you imagine. Take your education on the road and see where your Whitman tuition and financial aid can take you! In this session, Dean Dunn was joined by Susan Holme and Nadir Ovcina from the office of Off-Campus Studies. They provided a broad overview of their program and the respective offerings and answers to any questions you might have had about study abroad. Date of Recording: 7/20/2023
