SFBC Minutes - October 1, 2009

The meeting was called to order at 1:25 p.m. in Memorial 313.
The minutes from the August meeting were approved by a motion from Jeff and were seconded by Marilyn. Motion carried unanimously.
Jeff provided feedback on the first lunch meeting that was held in September. It was not heavily attended but he believes it went well. Roger Edens gave a nice presentation and a great decision was had by those in attendance. One of the attendees submitted feedback via our online form and stated she went mainly as a sign of support but found it pleasantly informative. We hope our next lunch meetings will be better attended.
Dag has confirmed that Kendra Edlin from SECU will be on campus October 12 and 13 to present a few financial seminars. Since Dag was not present, the topics of the seminars were not announced. It was agreed that each member will attend one session so they can introduce Kendra. Jeff will route a schedule for everyone to select the best day and time for them.
Marilyn gave an overview of the work that the Infant Care Working Group performed. She indicated that faculty and staff members comprised the group and they meet once a month for a year. They researched all infant and daycare centers in the area and consulted with the Panel of 14 to see if they had a child care program at their institution. A report was written and submitted to the President and various other administrators. A response was requested by the group but never received. After some discussion, it was agreed that Jeff will contact Michelle Janning, who was Chair of the committee; to see about requesting a response.
Jennifer spoke on her progress with organizing a lunch meeting on the Flex Spending Plan. She has been in correspondence with Carol Harris and received a pamphlet to review. Once she has done that, she will sit down with Carol and discuss it further to gain a better understanding of the plan. Our representative, Bill Workman, has been scheduled for November 17. Jennifer stated that she has reserved both Olin 130 and 157 as she wasn't sure the size of room that would be appropriate.
In discussing the survey that we would like to implement, the committee decided it would be better suited as a quiz due to the type of questions and feedback we are seeking. Jason will work on a mock up and have it to present at our next meeting.
Jeff brought up an issue that one of his constituents spoke to him about regarding supervisors forcing workers to take vacation when they reached the maximum number of hours they can accrue. Since this would need to be addressed by Human Resources, Jeff will speak to Cindy Matern about the policy.
