SFBC Minutes - June 11, 2009

Members Present: Gary D'Agostino, Sonja Aikens, Jeff Donahue, and Jennifer McNeil

Members Absent:  Jason Arp, Ginni Delavan, Marilyn Ponti and David Sprunger

Invited Guest: Cindy Matern, Ad-Hoc Member

The meeting was called to order at 1:20 p.m. in the Physical Plant Conference Room.  It was decided to open discussion to general concerns since half the committee was not present.

Cindy Matern thanked the committee for its involvement in the insurance renewal process.  Dag noted that he has been looking into problems other organizations have been having with our current provider since Cigna's involvement.  Cindy opined that this might be the best we can hope for but the committee decided that Dag would continue to accrue information regarding performance by both Cigna and Premera/Blue Cross, the competitors for Whitman's health insurance business.

The members discussed and opted to support a series of informative forums developed in cooperation with Human Resources that would provide opportunities for them to present the varied, and sometimes misunderstood, facets of Whitman's broad benefits program.  Further discussion was tabled.

Dag announced elections are to be held during July's meeting for a new chairperson.  All interested members are urged to run for the two year term.

Dag also outlined the combining of April's and May's meeting shall be recorded as one synopsis outlining the scope and major points discussed during the presentations provided by Cigna and Premera.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:10 p.m.
