Members Absent: Kristen Healy
Agenda:
Minutes of the November 12, 2015 Staff Fringe Benefits Committee meeting were approved as posted.
Old business:
- The Committee discussed possible additions to the Movement That Matters offerings. After researching the option of kayak instruction during the lunch hour it was found not be possible for the upcoming spring. Perhaps arrangements can be made for instructional staff and lifeguards in the future. Michele Hanford will reinstate the Lunch Walk class that she previously instructed for the spring.
- The feedback on open enrollment was discussed and the Committee agreed that Human Resources should be made aware of the confusion and lack of effective communication that contributed to frustration by committee members and the Whitman community. It was also brought to the attention of the Committee that all changes to insurance coverage, due to change of participant status, needs to be made within 30 days of the change of status or payment must be made until the open enrollment period.
New business:
- A suggestion was made that we need to encourage participants in the Whitman insurance plan to seek treatment at urgent care facilities when appropriate rather than seeking treatment in emergency rooms. The cost of emergency room visits is much higher for the individual as well as Whitman. The phone nurse line is also still available for those comfortable with that type of treatment option. It was agreed upon to publicize the urgent care locations and hours in the Fountain to assist with this effort.
- Request from staff member to inquiry about requirements and system for Shared Leave Plan. Maggi will check with Telara (HR).
Next meeting: Thursday, February 11th, 2015 at 1:15 p.m. (2nd Thursday's of each month)
