SFBC Minutes - March 4, 2010

Members Present: Sonja Aikens, Jason Arp, Jeff Donahue, Jennifer McNeil, Chris Tarvin and Karen Webb

Members Absent: Gary D'Agostino and David Sprunger

Invited Guest: Cindy Matern

The meeting was called to order at 1:20 p.m. in Memorial 313.

The minutes from the February meeting were discussed and it was agreed that the "Employee Complaint Procedure" does not fall under our purview; therefore we will not be involved in the process.  Cindy stated that she will have Mary change the GreatWest link on the HR website to Premera.  The minutes were then approved by a motion from Jeff and were seconded by Jason.  Motion carried unanimously.

Sonja provided an update on the tuition remission lunch session.  It was originally scheduled for March 23 but it would then conflict with the healthy cooking session sponsored by the PAC committee.  It's been rescheduled tentatively for Thursday, April 8.

Cindy informed us that the College now has two TIAA/CREF consultants.  For a college our size to have two consultants is not common.  Also, it's been a while since there was a group presentation so we need to make sure we encourage everyone to attend.

There was some discussion on setting up a lunch session on retirement.  Chris volunteered to organize it.  Cindy suggested contacting the local Social Security Office to have someone present.  The idea of asking those interested to RSVP was discussed.  It would be ideal given the turnout at the previous sessions but we do not want those who did not RSVP to feel they could not attend.  No decision was made as to making it a RSVP event.

Jeff will contact Michele Hanford to see if she would be interested in hosting a tour of the fitness center.  Sonja mentioned that one of her constituents proposed a lunch session on setting up a living will.  A discussion was had on providing a write up on the sessions for people who were unable to attend a session and/or for others to review.  The committee will work on getting this accomplished.

More conversation was had regarding vacation accruals.  There are still many individuals who are at or just below the maximum hours they can accrue.  If people do not start using their vacation time, there might be some unwelcomed changes (e.g. no longer receive extra time off during the holidays).  The committee was asked to think of ideas on how we can get people to use their allotted time.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:20 p.m.
