Whitman College has a non-profit, licensed childcare center and preschool located on campus. The Kids' Place was established in 1985, serving children ages 18 months to 5 years old. Whitman has a longstanding relationship with The Kid's Place. It was founded by Whitman families and faculty and staff members serve on its Board of Directors. Whitman families make up approximately half of all children enrolled at The Kids' Place. Tuition is set on a sliding scale based on gross family income, and a 30% discount is applied for subsequent siblings, making quality care affordable for all income levels. Whitman College charges The Kids' Place a nominal rental fee for use of the facility, as an additional effort to keep rates affordable.

Whitman provides complimentary child care to all faculty and staff members with children ages 18 months to 6 years old at The Kids' Place during the following weekend events:

  •  First-Year and Transfer Student Registration
  •  Commencement

All Whitman College employees are eligible to sign up for pre-tax deductions for Dependent Care via Sec. 125 Cafeteria Plan Flexible Spending Account (up to $5,000/year filing joint or $2,500/year if filing single.)

Resources for alternative child care options in the area are available via Child Care Aware of Washington or by arranging a personal consultation with Jennifer Casper, casperja@whitman.edu, 509-527-5134, in the President's Office.
