"The first Whitman College play, "She Stoops to Conquer," was given in June of 1904 in the Walla Walla Opera House. Sponsored by the sophomore class, the play was coached by Miss Edith Merrill, instructor in speech and dramatics, now Mrs. W. R. Davis, faculty emeritus.

"The Walla Walla Opera House, where the Denny Building now stands, was built in 1885. It was condemned after the Iroquois disaster in Chicago and razed in 1906." -- Flier c. 1950
