Dear Faculty,
In accordance with recommendations of the Washington State Department of Health on controlling coronavirus on campuses, we are modifying our excused absence policy so that students do not need a note from a health care provider to be excused from class due to illness.
This change will take effect immediately and will be in effect until further notice.
Further, several students who have preexisting health conditions have asked to self-isolate because they are at a higher risk should they contract the coronavirus. Disability support services is working on accommodations with those few students so that they can complete their coursework remotely.
Should the time come when larger groups of faculty, staff and students need to self-isolate, Technology Services is looking into technology options that would facilitate remote learning for more classes. As this work moves forward Technology Services will work closely with faculty to ensure the technology meets the needs of both students and faculty and that training is available.
We are currently working on how to best implement a comparable policy for faculty and staff. As we plan for this constantly changing situation, we will keep you updated of our progress and best practices to keep our campus community healthy.
Best wishes,
Alzada
