Your support for Whitman College makes a difference…
Quality Liberal Arts Education
Your unrestricted support is vital to the continued success of Whitman College. Providing an outstanding academic and co-curricular education requires considerable financial support. Unrestricted contributions from alumni, parents, and friends are especially important. Whitman is proud of the loyal support provided by the Annual Fund – each year, upwards of 50% of our alumni give to the College and larger gifts are recognized with membership in our President’s Gift Societies. Because your unrestricted gift has an immediate impact on the student experience at Whitman College, we thank you for your efforts to give regularly and generously to the unrestricted fund.
What do our alumni remember most about their academic experience at Whitman? Invariably, we hear that an inspiring professor or enthusiastic mentor made all the difference. Whitman’s faculty members are highly-qualified and committed to student achievement. These talented scholars also perform cutting-edge research while forging meaningful connections with individual students. Expectations for our faculty members are high. You can further their efforts by making a gift to faculty salaries, teaching innovation, or research. To provide legacy support for teaching at Whitman, learn more about endowing a chair or professorship.
Our students come to Whitman with diverse strengths and nearly all find a program in which to thrive. With the cost of higher education on the rise, building a scholarship program that ensures that all qualified students can afford to attend is a significant challenge. Your support for scholarship helps ensure that students from a variety of backgrounds will continue to have access to a Whitman education. Whitman College needs your help recruiting and retaining the best and brightest students. You can provide support for exceptional students through a current gift to scholarship aid or create a legacy by endowing a scholarship.
As our student body changes to reflect the world around us, Whitman makes every effort to provide an experience that compliments the increasingly diverse set of interests and abilities that they bring. The underlying goal of a liberal arts education is to provide an intellectual foundation that prepares one for a variety of challenges. Traditional classroom learning is increasingly not enough to prepare our students for success; demand is greater than ever for supported opportunities in experiential education, such as our Semester in the West and summer internship programs. We encourage your support for student programs such as these.
Whitman has a beautiful campus. The trees and landscaping are meticulously cared for and deferred maintenance on our buildings and grounds has been eliminated through careful fiscal management. To maintain the appeal of the College, capital projects that further our ability to serve our students are carefully chosen. In recent years, Whitman has completed the Fouts Center for Visual Arts, the Baker Ferguson Fitness Center, The Sherwood Center and a major addition to and renovation of its Science Building. All of these projects were made possible by gifts from alumni, parents, and friends of the College.
Your continued support for priority projects is vital to our efforts to attract motivated and talented students. As a prospective student walks through our new science wing, he or she sees the quality of the facility and imagines the opportunities that await at Whitman. This promise is fulfilled when that student delves into advanced studies and finds the resources necessary to complete cutting-edge research on campus. Your support for facilities and capital projects helps Whitman keep its promises to such highly-motivated students.
