Adopt a Family assists those in need
Whitman's 2017 Adopt a Family drive generated gifts for more than 40 families in the community that Blue Mountain Heart to Heart and The Health Center had identified as needing extra support this holiday season. The estimated value of these gifts totals over $4,000, according to Community Service Coordinator Abby Juhasz. About 30 volunteers also gathered to wrap the gifts.

Assistant Professor of Sociology Alvaro Santana-Acuña was interviewed by The New York Times about his forthcoming book on the history of Gabriel García Márquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude for an article (published in English and Spanish) about the release of the author's digital archives.
Whitman Magazine has received a CASE Award for excellence in communications and marketing in the category of feature writing for its Spring 2017 issue. The winning article, "Leading the Charge," by Senior Writer and Editor Daniel Le Ray, highlights Seattle's nationally recognized Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion program and its director, Kris Nyrop '79. Four Whitman Magazine stories have earned CASE Awards since 2014.
