Infection Control
Washington Administrative Code, WAC 296-823, requires the College to have a plan to reduce employee exposure to potentially infectious materials. This includes blood, semen, vaginal secretions, cerebrospinal fluid, synovial fluid, pleural fluid, pericardial fluid, peritoneal fluid, amniotic fluid, saliva in dental procedures, and any body fluid that is visibly contaminated with blood, and all body fluids in situations where it is difficult or impossible to differentiate between body fluids.
Whitman College has implemented a Bloodborne Pathogen Policy. Designated “at risk” employees will be offered the opportunity to receive the Hepatitis B vaccine. For further information regarding bloodborne pathogens please refer to the Bloodborne Pathogen Policy in your department or in the Safety Office. You may also contact the Director of the Welty Health Center for more information or training.
