Overview of Summer Campus COVID Protocols
Following are Whitman's campus COVID protocols for Summer 2021. These practices were last updated June 4, 2021. These protocols are in effect through July 31, 2021; please refer to the Fall 2021 Protocols for campus procedures in effect beginning August 1, 2021.
Last revised July 28, 2021.
Student Campus Access
Students who have documented their vaccination through the college’s online form will be able to apply for general daytime campus access which will allow access to fitness facilities, to Penrose Library, for employment on campus, for research or other work with faculty, and other general uses. Students who have already documented their vaccination can request summer access now. Students do not need a faculty or staff member to request access on their behalf.
These access requests will be evaluated solely on whether a student has submitted proof of vaccination. Those who have a documented medical or religious exemption from the vaccination requirement can petition for access on an individual basis. Without an exemption, students will not be able to access campus unless they have completed vaccination (two doses of Pfizer or Moderna, or one dose of Johnson & Johnson). Swipe access beyond the default daytime access to academic and administrative buildings will be managed on an individual basis as it would have been prior to the enactment of COVID protocols.
Employee Campus Access
All Whitman employees are authorized for campus access this summer. Employees who are currently working from home and are fully vaccinated can start the process of returning to work after commencement and will receive a summer campus access badge valid for the entire summer. Employees who have not provided proof of vaccination must take weekly COVID tests in order to receive a campus access badge valid for one week. That testing takes place at Welty Student Health Center every Tuesday from 8:30–10 a.m.
Public Campus Access
Campus buildings are closed to the public. Visitors wearing face coverings and following social-distancing protocols are welcome to walk through outdoor areas of campus.
Vaccination
The COVID-19 vaccine is required for all students wishing to access campus. It is also our expectation that all employees will be vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination should be submitted through the COVID-19 Vaccination Reporting Form.
Masks
Effective July 28, all individuals, including those who are fully vaccinated, must wear face masks when they are indoors in group settings or public spaces. Individuals alone in a private office do not need to wear masks.
People who have not provided proof of vaccination must wear a mask at all times on Whitman's campus.
Gatherings
Our group gathering limits allow for a maximum of ten people indoors (in accordance with any posted occupancy limits) and 50 people outdoors.
Travel and Quarantine
Those who are vaccinated may travel within the U.S. without quarantining upon return to campus. Anyone who has not provided proof of vaccination must quarantine for ten days before returning to campus.
