Community Learning Days
Community Learning Days is a collection of DEIA-related workshops/education sessions held prior to the start of the spring semester over the course of two days. The training is focused on building cultural competencies through multiple discussion formats including an interdisciplinary panel and individual workshops on disability, invisible labor, and LGBTQIA+ identities.
FGWC Mentorship Program
The Mentorship Program for first-generation and/or working-class students aims to foster a strong and meaningful relationship between mentee and peer mentor that will extend beyond the first year.
Glover Alston Center
The Glover Alston Center is a resource to facilitate Whitman’s commitment to sustaining a diverse community. By providing a safe space for meaningful conversation and interaction, the Glover Alston Center welcomes and supports differences, collaborates with academic departments, encourages input from divergent perspectives, enhances intercultural and international awareness, and models respect for all in the Whitman community.
Power & Privilege Symposium
Every year, the Associated Students of Whitman College create an environment that interrogates hard questions, relationships, and structures of power and privilege—through the Power & Privilege Symposium. It is designed to educate the community about the power structures prevailing around the world, questioning many of the paradigms that have socialized us. It is a house for resources—the beginning of questions and further investment in social justice.
Third Space Speaker Series
With support from the Johnston-Fix Foundation, Whitman College launched the Third Space Speaker Series. The series features scholars, artists, writers and thought leaders in dialogue with each other and with the Whitman community in an intellectual space where cultural humility, cultural wealth and cultural pluralism converge.
