Whitman College offers on-campus visits year-round Monday through Saturday, except for national holidays, college closures and certain special college events.
When planning your visit, it's good to know what your options are and what you'd like to see. While we welcome families and all ages of prospective students for many of our activities, we save classroom visits and lunches for high school juniors, seniors and transfer students. High school seniors and transfer students are also welcome to request an overnight stay.
Here's a rundown of what's available at Whitman:
All visitors are welcome on a student-led, 50-minute walking tour of campus. You'll see inside residence halls, academic buildings, Penrose Library, the Reid Campus Center and our brand-new Cleveland Commons dining hall. During the academic year, tours leave at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., rain-or-shine, Monday through Friday. Saturday tours are held at 11 a.m. During the summer months, tours are held at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
During our 45-minute group information session, a member of the Admission Office staff will tell you about what makes an education at Whitman College special, and answer any questions you may have about academic programs, life on campus, and how to apply for admission and financial aid.
Prospective students may request a one-on-one meeting with a member of our Admission team. We offer interviews for students from May 1 of junior year through Jan. 15 of senior year. Regional interviews are also offered in spring and fall. Transfer students may interview up to March 1. Following the one-on-one meeting, you and anyone traveling with you will have time to ask questions specific to your situation and interests. Admitted students are also welcome to schedule appointments with our Admission team between Jan. 15 and May 1.
High school juniors, seniors and transfer students are welcome to attend up to two classes during a visit. In April, juniors can attend one session of our first-year experience class, Encounters. That course is held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
On weekdays during the academic year, prospective students can enjoy a hosted lunch with current students in our brand new Cleveland Commons dining hall. Our dining hall is also open to the public for family dining.
High school seniors and transfer students can stay overnight in a residence hall during academic year visits. Overnight visits are available on Sunday through Thursday nights. Host students are trained and pre-screened. If you're interested in an overnight stay, call the Office of Admission at 509-527-5176 or email email@example.com to see if an overnight stay is available during your planned visit.
Saturday visitors are welcomed most weekends September through the first Saturday in May, with campus tours at 11 a.m. and information sessions available at noon. The Office of Admission is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. during the fall and spring, and 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in January and February.
Each spring and fall, we are excited to welcome prospective students and their families to campus for our fall and spring visitors days. These special events are uniquely designed to show you what makes a Whitman education distinctive and how our community will suit your needs.
During these visitors days, you'll get a chance to tour campus, listen to a panel on student life, hear from faculty, ask questions about academics and majors, attend sessions on the application process and financial aid, and learn more about extracurricular opportunities, like our paid internships or opportunities to study off-campus.
Fall Visitors Day is typically held each October. Spring Visitors Day is usually in early April. Registration becomes available about six weeks prior to the event. We also offer a special day just for our admitted seniors in mid-April. This gives admitted students an opportunity to get a head start on fall and meet some of their future classmates.
Groups of prospective students in ninth through twelfth grade are welcome to visit Whitman College. Our group visit includes a campus tour and a presentation about the college application process, financial aid and scholarships, and life at Whitman.
Groups are limited to no more than 50 people and must have one adult per 10 students. The best days for group visits are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
To learn more about group visit availability, contact the campus visit coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org or 509-527-5176.
