Merit, Talent & Passion Scholarships
Rewarding Excellence, Passion & Creativity
Merit & Talent Scholarships
Whitman College students excel in the classroom and participate widely in extracurricular activities. We offer a variety of four-year renewable scholarships recognizing their academic achievements, talents and passions as part of our scholarship and financial aid packages.
Applicants are automatically considered for several merit-based academic scholarships when they apply to Whitman. Students who have an enthusiasm for outdoor recreation or a demonstrated excellence in debate and forensics, fine arts, music or theater and dance can also apply for talent-based scholarships.
Merit-Based Academic Scholarships
When you apply to Whitman, you will automatically be considered for the following merit-based academic scholarships. No additional application is necessary, and merit scholarships are renewable for all four years!
Whitman Merit Scholarships
Whitman awards four-year renewable merit-based scholarships of up to $35,000 to applicants who have excelled academically.
Once you are offered a merit scholarship, you will continue to receive the same merit award throughout each of your four years at Whitman. If you are enrolled less than full-time in any year, your scholarship amount will be prorated based on the number of credits you take.
Garrett-Sherwood Scholarships
The Garrett-Sherwood Scholarships are awarded to exceptional applicants who exhibit outstanding academic achievement, leadership and contributions to their schools and communities.
While at Whitman, recipients have the opportunity to attend special socials, networking receptions, roundtables and fellowship information sessions. They also travel to New York City for career exploration, meeting alumni leaders in business, finance, media, culture and government to build professional connections.
Eells Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to an incoming student who has financial need and demonstrates high academic achievement and talent in the fine arts, performing arts or humanities. The Eells Scholarship covers tuition and fees for four years and includes a research grant.
Talent & Passions Scholarships
Talent & Passion Scholarships are offered to students with outstanding potential in the fine arts, debate and forensics, music, and theater and dance or who are passionate about outdoor recreation. All incoming students are encouraged to apply!
While you don’t have to major in one of these areas to receive a Talent & Passion Scholarship, recipients are expected to actively participate in the area corresponding to their scholarship throughout their time at Whitman. This could look like joining a music ensemble, joining the Debate and Forensics team, participating in Whitman’s Outdoor Program, acting in a play or working backstage or taking courses to develop your skills.
“My talent scholarship has absolutely had a life-changing impact on my family and I. It has given me the chance to spend my time on classes and on extra-curricular activities that I wouldn’t have necessarily been able to participate in without my scholarship.”
David K., from Lywood, Washington
