Annaliese Baker

Visiting Associate Professor of Theater and Costume Director

Annaliese Baker is a theater artist with 20 years of professional and postsecondary work; nationally and internationally. As a “multi-hyphenate”, Baker explores performance in multiple facets: directing (Arkansas, Central + Northern California, and Iowa), the design of over 100 performances (live theatre and film/television), and theatrical management (Managing Director/Artistic Director of the Paradise Performing Arts Center).

Baker is a member of United Scenic Artists, Local USA 829, and their theatre designs have been featured meritoriously at the Prague Quadrennial and in the World Stage Design competitions. Their design skills take them beyond the theatre into freelance book illustration and graphic design (Interlink Books, Olive Branch Press, Crocodile Books).

Baker has also served as a visiting evaluator for the National Association of Schools of Theatre and is active both in The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival and The United States Institute for Theatre Technology. Baker's scholarship has taken them to Southeast Asia, researching and teaching in Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand and China. Baker's current area of training focuses on the burgeoning field of intimacy direction and how it frames itself within the collaborative process — from actor to artistic team to backstage crew.
