Susanne Beechey's teaching and research focus on gender, race, class, and sexuality in U.S. social policy. Her major interests include deservingness in the U.S. welfare state, social security policy, welfare policy, and gender equity in federal sex education policy. Recent courses in the Gender Studies Program include: Pol 254 Gender and Race in Law and Policy, Pol 311 Deservingness in U.S. Social Policy, Pol 325 Queer Politics, Pol 365 Political Economy of Care/Work, and GNDS 100 Introduction to Gender Studies. She earned a Ph.D. in Gender and Social Policy. from The George Washington University and a B.A. in Women's and Gender Studies and German Studies from Macalester College.
