Testing at the Disability Access Services (DAS) Testing Center

The DAS Testing Center is located in Olin Hall on the third floor.

Who Can Test Here?

Only students with approved testing accommodations through DAS may use the Testing Center. Students must submit exam requests through the Accommodate system.

Booking Deadlines

To ensure we have time to coordinate space, proctors, and obtain exams, please follow these deadlines:

  • Regular Exams/Quizzes: Must be scheduled at least 3 school days (72 hours) in advance.
  • Midterms: Must be scheduled at least 1 week in advance.
  • Final Exams: Must be scheduled at least 2 weeks in advance, and may be scheduled up to 6 weeks in advance.
  • Testing Accommodation Use & Responsibilities
    • If you do not submit a request to take your exam through the DAS Testing Center via Accommodate, it will be understood that you have chosen to take the exam in class without the use of your approved testing accommodations.
    • If you plan to take your exam with your professor instead, that is acceptable. However, it is your responsibility to clearly communicate with your professor in advance to confirm how your approved accommodations will be provided.
    • Students must provide their own testing materials, including writing instruments, paper, or a calculator (if permitted). DAS does not provide blue books—faculty or departments must provide them in advance.
    • Cell phones must be turned off and left in your backpack.

If you have questions or need assistance with your accommodations, contact Disability Access Services at das@whitman.edu.

Scheduling in Accommodate

  1. Log in to Accommodate.
  2. On the left-hand menu, click Accommodation>Accessibility Request>Schedule Alternative Test
  3. Follow the prompts to request your exam.

Testing Center Rules

To ensure a fair and secure testing environment:

  • No hats, large coats, or items in pockets.
  • No phones, bags, or personal items in the testing room. Limited storage is available, and DAS cannot guarantee the safety of personal items.
  • Testing rooms are monitored via video (no audio) for academic integrity.
  • Testing begins only when you are seated and the exam has been physically or digitally provided.
  • You will be allowed a 15-minute grace period to begin your exam. Students arriving after this period may be redirected to their professor, and the exam may be returned.

Testing Hours

Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Exams must be scheduled to fit within these hours. The Testing Center closes strictly at 5 p.m. If your exam cannot be completed by that time, your professor may need to proctor the remaining time or provide guidance.

Academic Integrity & Conduct

Cheating or misuse of accommodations will result in the immediate end of the exam. DAS will notify your professor. The situation may be reviewed under the Student Conduct Code. Violations may result in:

  • A required meeting with DAS staff.
  • Suspension of Testing Center access.
