A physical practitioner first, Peter grounds his work in an ongoing investigation of popping, waving, and street styles, which he first encountered during warehouse parties of the late 90s and early 2000s. Since the close of his concert dance career, he has built on these formative experiences through intensive one-on-one study with Robin Rojas, Megaman, and Slick Dogg. Peter stays connected to the Popping scene in the Pacific Northwest by participating in and helping to create platforms for battles, jams, and various community oriented projects.
Peter's early career began with training at San Francisco Ballet School and Juilliard. He danced professionally with American Repertory Ballet, Sacramento Ballet, and Spectrum Dance Theatre, where he became a principal artist under the direction of Donald Byrd. He performed contemporaneously as a guest artist with Adam Miller Dance Project, Complexions Choreographic Workshops, and John Passafiume Dancers in New York, as well as with BalletX in Philadelphia. Peter later joined Tanztheater Des Staatstheater Darmstadt in Germany, where he closed his career with a four-year term as a soloist.
Informed by German Tanztheater, spiritual esoterica, and film, Peter's choreographic practice grafts disparate movement vocabularies to voiceover and recitation in the making of small-scale performances for intimate venues. Peter has performed and presented choreographic work at various festivals and events in Europe, Asia, and North America. He holds a BFA in Dance from Juilliard and an MFA in Choreography from Jacksonville University. He is a Senior Lecturer of Dance at Whitman College.
