Visiting Assistant Professor in Film and Media Studies and Rhetoric
Professor Campbell is joining the Whitman community from Chicago, where he finished his Ph.D. and taught courses at DePaul University, the University of Chicago, and Northwestern University's School of Professional Studies. His scholarly interests range broadly across film, media, cultural studies, and philosophy. He has written on cinephilia and taste cultures, the problem of "context" in film-viewing, and the relationship between aesthetics and politics. He is currently revising his dissertation, which explored the emergence of video recording practices as a new medium, into a book manuscript. This year, he will be teaching courses focusing on film theory, cultural studies, television, visual culture, and apocalyptic media.
