Campbell and Higley Music Scholarships

Please log in to your applicant portal for additional information.

Whitman College invites you to audition for the Campbell and Higley Music Scholarships. Both are four-year renewable awards.

Regardless of potential major, the Campbell Music Scholarships are awarded to candidates for admission to Whitman College who demonstrate outstanding musical talent. This scholarship is offered in addition to the monetary support offered by the College in the form of other scholarships, loans, and employment.

The Higley Music Scholarship is a prestigious award that is offered to a few students who are able to declare in writing at the time of acceptance their intention of becoming a music major (which does not exclude the possibility of a double major).

Additional music scholarships available include:

  • Lesson Scholarships
  • Richardson Piano Scholarship
  • Schilling Voice Scholarship

All scholarship recipients are required to perform in the appropriate Whitman ensemble (wind ensemble, orchestra, jazz band, or chorale). Pianists must accompany to fulfill ensemble requirements. All Campbell and Higley scholarship recipients will also receive additional Lesson Scholarships to cover lesson fees.

Auditions are offered for voice, piano and organ, and all orchestral instruments. Those auditioning should perform selections from the classical repertoire with the exception of jazz performers. For example, string and wind players should perform a movement from a concerto and a contrasting selection from other advanced repertoire. Pianists should perform works at least on the level of a Bach 3-part Invention or a movement of a Beethoven sonata. Vocalists should perform two art songs (one may be an aria), at least one in a foreign language. Jazz performers should perform two contrasting standards plus improvisation.

The auditions will be held on the Whitman College campus. Please see the date listed below. You are urged to audition in person; however, if you cannot appear in person, an audition by high quality YouTube video is acceptable.
