Whitman College offers opportunities for students to learn outside of the classroom with trained peer tutors who enjoy sharing thier passion for learning.
Departmental drop-in tutoring is sponsored by individual departments and takes place in academic buildings. Student tutors are available for quick questions and assistance, which is great when working on homework! Ask your course professor, look for posted information, or ask a friend or mentor to help you discover which and where departmental tutoring sessions are available for you! You can also view the Departmental Tutoring Schedule published near the start of each semester.
The Center fOr Writing and Speaking (COWS) is the the place on campus to go for individual consultation in writing and speaking, and for senior thesis writing support. See more at COWS.
The Language Learning Center (LLC) is the hub for foreign langauge learning support on campus. It hosts Language Assistants from various countries and is the home of the English Language Fellows (ELFs). Learn more at Language Learning Center.
Individualized tutoring with ARC Peer Tutors provide one-on-one meetings with a tutor for a variety of subjects, including Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Music Theory, Statistics, and other STEM courses. (We are hiring! See Be a Tutor today!) ARC Peer Tutoring sessions are free and one hour long. The tutors' goals are to help students to improve understanding of course material and to prepare for exams.
