Accreditation
Matters pertaining to assessment and accreditation at Whitman College fall under the responsibilities of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Helen Kim (kimh2@whitman.edu), who serves as the College's Accreditation Liaison Officer. The College’s Assessment Committee, chaired by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, consists of the three elected faculty Division Chairs, the Provost and Dean of the Faculty, the Director of Institutional Research, the Chief Information Officer, the Director of Enterprise Technology, and the Senior Associate Dean of Students.
Accreditation
The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), an accreditor authorized by the U.S. Department of Education, will conduct its regular, Year-7 Evaluation of Institutional Effectiveness for Whitman College April 15, 16 and 17, 2024. The purpose of the visit is to evaluate the college against the Commission’s requirements for eligibility and accreditation standards.
NWCCU most recently reaffirmed Whitman’s accreditation standing in 2017. The NWCCU’s most recent action on the institution’s accreditation status on July 22, 2020 was to accept Whitman’s Spring 2020 Mid-Cycle Review and Spring 2020 Ad Hoc Evaluations.
Individuals who wish to send comments pertaining to Whitman College’s accreditation are invited to do so. Comments must be signed and sent to NWCCU at one of the addresses below. To be considered in this review cycle, comments should arrive by March 26th, 2024.
