PRELIMINARY 2008 FIELD TRIP INFORMATION--MARINE BIOLOGY 278L

During Spring Break, atSan Juan Island's U.W. Friday Harbor Laboratories, you will be doing a number of projects and experiments in the lab and at field sites. There will be numerous write-ups (equivalent to a semester's worth of lab).  You will also be working in teams of 2, so be thinking about a partner.

I. SCHEDULE (Details later):     
SATURDAY Mar. 15
6:30 am-Depart from Science parking lot. Snack stop in Ellensburg.
11:30am-Lunch stop in Eastgate to pick up students
1:00 pm-Arrive ferry terminal at Anacortes for lunch (ferry @ 2:30 pm)
4:00 pm-Arrive Friday Harbor labs; settle in/cabin assignments etc.
5:30-7:00 pm- Possible TRIP TO ROCKY INTERTIDAL (low tide about 6pm)
7:30 pm--Dinner; orientation
MON. - FRI.: Centennial dredging/trawling trip; Lab studies, Field site studies; rowboats; projects; lectures, videos
FRI. MAR. 21st
6:30 am-Wake-up call
7:00 am-leave for ferry terminal (departs 8:05; often fills up!); breakfast in line
11:00 am-arrive Seattle area; ONE drop-off point at Eastgate
4:00 pm-arrive Walla Walla          

II. TRANSPORTATION:  1 large VAN, 1 min-van  

III. ASSISTANTS: Joanne Ishikawa, Anna Marie Clark

IV. MATERIALS TO BRING:  PERSONAL  (pack lightly--space is usually tight!)

1. SLEEPING BAG — or sheets and blanket

2. Flashlight!!!

3. Bathroom items—soap, toiletries

4. General outdoor clothes incl. something WARM!

5. Grubby shoes or high BOOTS for mudflat

6. RAINGEAR

7. Work Gloves or waterproof marine gloves

 8. Small backpack or other container for field trips

9. Course materials—
lab manual, pen/pencils

10. Small
NOTEPAD for taking notes in the field (rain?
