Dear W Club Members - Our basketball and swim teams, women as well as men, are off to successful start and taking aim at wrapping up the semester, academically and athletically, in spectacular fashion.

Dean Snider

This Friday and Saturday (Dec. 2-3) represents a "big" weekend for the Whitman basketball teams in particular.

Most of the Northwest Conference basketball season plays out in January and February, but all teams play two conference games in early December.

This year, Whitman plays its early NWC games at home (George Ball Court, Sherwood Center). We host George Fox on Friday and Lewis & Clark on Saturday.

The women's games start both nights at 6 p.m. with the men's games following at 8 p.m.

For those of you unable to see the games in person, please note the links on the Whitman Athletics website for live video and live stats.

This weekend's NWC games are a bit daunting for the Whitman women's basketball team in that George Fox is ranked No. 3 nationally in NCAA Division III while Lewis & Clark is No. 18. Oh well, no better time than the present for our young but promising women's team to knock off a few favorites. Please click here for a preview of the women's games this weekend.

On the men's side, Whitman and Lewis & Clark are two of the favorites for this season's NWC title, and George Fox always produces a strong men's team. Please click here for a weekend preview of the men's games.

For more information about the two basketball teams, including rosters, schedules, game summaries, statistics and season previews, please return often to our webpages for women's basketball and men's basketball.

Whitman Swimmers at Husky Invite in Federal Way

The women's and men's swim teams also are poised on the cusp of a big weekend. They compete Friday through Sunday, Dec. 2-4, at the Husky Invitational at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.

Members of the Whitman community in the Federal Way area this weekend should swing by the pool to root for the Missionaries.

Whitman swimmers have enjoyed a great start to their season, posting 3-0 records (men and women) in dual meets while placing second at the Northwest Relays and third at the Northwest Invitational.

For more information (rosters, schedules, results, season previews, etc.) about the Whitman swim teams, please click for the team webpage.

As we head into the weekend know that our students and coaches have done the hard work of preparing to compete. Together we wish them good fortune as they give their best efforts.
