WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Freshman Geoff Burks and junior Brian Barton shot 3-over par 75 on Sunday as the Whitman College men's golf team finished on a strong note at the Northwest Conference Fall Classic at Heron Lakes Golf Course in Portland, Ore.

Junior Max Rausch with a 77 and sophomore John Abercrombie with a 78 rounded out Whitman's 305 team score. That was 19 strokes better than the Missionaries shot in Saturday's opening round.

Also playing for Whitman on Sunday were junior Noah Jolley and senior Grant Brandal, who shot 81 and 82, respectively.
With a 629 two-day total, Whitman placed seventh in a nine-school field.
The Missionaries, finishing well ahead of Willamette and Lewis & Clark, trailed sixth-place Pacific Lutheran by just five strokes and fifth-place George Fox by six.
Linfield was first in the team scoring with a 591, three shots better than Whitworth and five in front of Pacific. Puget Sound was fourth at 607.
The Fall Classic counts for 25 percent of the scoring that determines the NWC team title. The Spring Classic, early next April, also counts for 25 percent. The NWC Championship tournament, set for late next April, counts for the final 50 percent.
Barton posted Whitman's best weekend score, a 36-hole total of 153, which tied him for 13th. Rausch was two strokes back at 155, tied for 19th. Close behind were Burks at 159 and Abercrombie at 162.
Jolley carded a 172 total, three shots better than Brandal.
