WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- With four players shooting in the 90s, the Missionary women's golf squad dropped its team score by 12 strokes on Sunday and placed fourth as the Whitman College Women's Invitational came to a close with a second round of 18 holes at the Wildhorse Golf Course near Mission, Ore.
Tate Head, one of three first-year golfers playing for Whitman, shot 91 on Sunday and finished with a two-day total of 177, good enough for a tie for ninth place. One of her rookie teammates, Sydney Conway, shot 92 on Sunday for a 185 total, which tied her for 13th.
Caitlin Holland, Whitman's third first-year player, carded a second-round 96 for a 36-hole score of 199. Junior Sydney Saito shot 99 to finish at 204.
Sophomore Allison Lodine also played, posting a 210 total after a Sunday 102.
George Fox took first in the team scoring with a 663 total. Whitworth was a distance second at 685 while Pacific was third at 733. Whitman and Lewis & Clark rounded out the field with scores of 765 and 850, respectively.
Brianna Nap, playing for George Fox, was first in the final individual standings with a 157. One of her teammates, Mandy Cameron, took second place with a 164.
"We are pleased that we improved from day one to day two and that we beat Pacific as well as Lewis & Clark in the second round," Whitman coach Skip Molitor said.
"All four of the scores we counted on Sunday were in the 90s, which is a step in the right direction, but we are capable of much better. We're looking forward to lots of golf the next two weeks, with two 36-hole tournaments coming up."
