Model United Nations

The Whitman College Model United Nations Club is a place for students to meet and discuss pertinent international issues from a global perspective. The club will meet to discuss and debate current issues, become familiar with international politics and the United Nations as an organization that tries to bring the countries of the world together in peace, and to prepare for conferences in which students are asked to represent a country’s views on an international issue in a United Nations-like council (i.e. General Assembly, Security Council, IHC, etc.). These councils allow students to look at, debate, and come up with realistic solutions to problems that face the international community today. The councils are also a good way to remove oneself from the lens of the United States to see how other countries view the same international concerns that the United States is concerned about. In between the conferences the club will be a place where students can meet to stay informed about problems in the world and to discuss with other internationally interested students about international problems and their solutions. The Whitman College Model United Nations Club is dedicated to forming a community of people who wish to grapple with the world at large and what role all individuals from Walla Walla to rural India and everywhere in between play in the greater scheme of international politics.
